Palm Oil Industries

Working in a Palm Oil Industry is never easy, especially in sustainable Palm Oil. I know, because I am working in one of the big boys palm oil certification company.

Palm Oil and Oil & Gas are the same.  Both highly paid, but the work is extreme.

Palm Oil has received many criticism in regards of how they process palm oil.  This is because, in order for you to have a business in palm, you need one heck of a large land.  These land consists of full flora and fauna especially endangered species.  Not to mention the Local people that have stayed over a 100 years on that piece of land.  So how are you going to grow palm oil with such diverse biodiversity in that piece of land?  This is where the issue comes.  Open burning of forest, illegal logging that may kill thousands and millions of wild species of animals and plants.  Also causing problems for the Indigenous local people in that forest.  By these actions, this is where criticism of palm oil started.  And it is still in deep fire because of these issues.

Malaysia and Indonesia are the two largest country in the world that produces Palm Oil.  And yet we are under scrutiny by the Europeans because of our arrogant in producing Palm Oil.  Europe has made a regulation to not import and buy Palm Oil that is not sustainable.  Meaning, Palm Oil that were produce in harmful manner towards the people and planet.

So how do they differentiate Palm Oil that is sustainable and unsustainable?  Well, there goes RSPO, the company that I am working in.

RSPO is a certification company that gives out certificates to Palm Oil growers, retailers, manufacturers, industries and etc...  However, in order to get the certificates, you first need to be a member of RSPO and abide to all the principle and criteria set by RSPO.  Now these principles and criteria are made through consensus by RSPO's multi stakeholder from various places.  There are the ones that set the standards of how to produce sustainable Palm Oil at the same time thinking of maintaining the "green".  When members follow and abide to these principles and criteria, they will be granted the certificate and trademark of RSPO sustainable palm oil.  However, before getting that, they must first join RSPO as a member with fees from 2000EURO until 250 EURO.  After that would be the long and agonizing of auditing their processed palm oil.  You think it is that easy to earn the RSPO certified palm oil?

RSPO has members in all over the world.  And we are the most sought out certification in the world.  Easy say,  when you have experience working in RSPO in your resume, consider your resume strong.  You want to work in any big guns Palm Oil such as Sime Darby?  Easy.  You want to work in a certification body like ASI?  You are the most sought out people in the Palm oil industry.  Consider yourself to be paid in a high wage salary.

But sadly, Malaysia has the lowest knowledge in this, and thus Malaysia will continue on to be scrutinized in their palm oil industry by the Europeans and westerns.
